Whirli: A story in pictures

Did you have an imaginary friend when you were a kid? I did. She was a purple unicorn and her name was Penelope.

Beans introduced us to his [shhhhh…imaginary] friend Jack a couple of years ago. Jack has a little sister named Daisy and they have a dog, too. Jack spends a good deal of time at our house, but Daisy usually stays home with their mom and dad because she has to work. Jack has to call his mom for permission to go places with us, but she seems to trust us with her boy and almost always says yes. She even let Jack go with Beans to his first days of preschool — you know, just until Beans got used to the place.

When Jack isn’t around, Beans is quick to entertain himself, sometimes by taking on an alternate identity.

Here is Beans, a.k.a. Firemouse, in all his gear, getting ready to go out and fight the Alien Bush.

Firemouse loves his job.

But he must get serious if he has any hope of defeating the evil aliens.

Uh oh. Firemouse wasn't counting on the interference of evil Alien Dog. (Note the fiery eyes.)

Firemouse narrowly escapes Alien Dog by seeking refuge in his spaceship.

Firemouse is soon back on the move. Watch out Alien Bush. You are no match for this superhero.

Oh, what a nailbiter! Will Firemouse get here in time?!

Hurry Firemouse! My lunch depends on it!

Don't worry, Karate Baby! I'll make sure you eat on time!

All aliens defeated! Run for the kitchen!

Woohoo! Victory is sweet! Let's party!

Bear had an imaginary friend called Sweetie Pie. I can not tell you how many times I sat on her, Left her at the park and had to tuck her in. Bear still has a great imagination and entertains herself also.
